About This Report

The Unpopulated Fields | Relationships report focuses on identifying relationship fields within your Salesforce instance that are entirely unpopulated. These fields, characterized by their REFERENCE data type, are critical for maintaining connections and dependencies between data entities. However, when left unpopulated, they fail to deliver intended relational insights or functional capabilities.

Create a copy of this report and customize it as a starting point for profiling field-results reporting.

The Unpopulated Fields | Relationships report helps identify unpopulated reference fields which are essential to ensure the accuracy and completeness of relational data, which directly impacts workflows, reporting, and integrations. For example, if a Contact's Account field is unpopulated, it can disrupt account-based reporting and lead to incomplete customer insights.

Customizing This Report

The Unpopulated Fields | Relationships report uses a set of specific filters to refine and target the profiling results displayed. These filters are critical in isolating the most relevant data fields across different Salesforce objects such as Account, Case, and Lead. For example, you can change the Profiling Field Results records based on their Created Date field.

Editing Filter Criteria

You can change the filters by clicking the Filter icon in the report. The opened menu shows which filters are locked that come with each report. You can change these unlocked filters according to your needs and can also add additional filters by clicking the Edit button.

Here’s an overview of the filters applied to this report by default:

  • Show Me: Displays all profiling field results, ensuring a comprehensive view of all relevant data fields across Salesforce objects.

  • Created Date (Fields): Set to "All Time," including fields regardless of when they were created, ensuring historical and current data is analyzed.

  • Is Latest Summary: Set to "True," which limits the report to only the latest profiling summaries, keeping the data updated and relevant.

  • Record Type: Filters fields categorized as "Profiling Field," focusing the analysis on specific data fields subjected to profiling.

  • Profiling Definition Category: Set to "Baseline," targeting profiling results from the baseline category, commonly representing default or standard profiling scenarios.

  • Profiling Definition Record Type: Displays only "CRM" records, narrowing the scope to Salesforce CRM-related objects.

  • Is System Field: Set to "False," excluding system fields and focusing the analysis on user-created or custom fields.

  • Is Field Empty (Primary): Set to "True," highlighting only those fields with no data population to identify gaps.

  • Data Type: Set to "REFERENCE," specifically analyzing fields with relationship data types to detect unpopulated references.

Adding Fields to the Report

This section guides how to customize the Unpopulated Fields | Relationships report by editing and adding fields, enhancing the report’s relevance and detail for specific organizational requirements.

  1. Open the Unpopulated Fields | Relationships report in your Salesforce environment and click the Edit button.

  1. Select Fields on the left to open the list of all fields available on the object.

  2. Use the Search all fields… option at the top of the Select Fields on the left to open the list of all fields available on the object panel to find specific fields you want to include in the report.

  3. Double-click fields to add them to the list of columns appearing in the report, and drag and drop fields within the Columns list to change their order. You can also drag and drop fields from the list of fields to the Columns list.

Once you have finished editing and adding fields:

  1. Click the Save button to preserve your changes.

  2. To update the report contents based on any changes you made, click Run. This will generate the report based on the current set of filters and fields you’ve configured.
