Introducing the Profiled Fields Tab

The Profiled Fields tab displays the utilization details for all profiled fields captured for a given Profiling Summary. It centralizes all fields profiled and displays profiling statistics describing the populated and actual utilization of fields profiled in both the primary and secondary scenarios.

Please note that the secondary profiling scenario is only available to Cuneiform for CRM: Business Data Reliability subscribers. Field and Data Management customers are limited to only one Profiling Scenario.

Fields are available in lists based on their type: standard, custom, picklist, and formula.

Analyze the Utilization of Profiled Fields

The Profiled Fields tab, by default, displays the Field Utilization list view beneath the Profiling Summary. This list view displays field utilization insights for all profiled fields associated with a profiling summary. These insights can be used to understand:

  • How often profiled fields are being populated (vs. empty)

  • The number of unique values present in a field

  • If a field has a default value – and if so, how often the default value is populated

  • The actual (or net) population rate (accounting for the default value population rate)

Based on their net population rate, these insights can identify which fields may appear to be in use vs. being used. Use population rate and net population rate to contrast field utilization perspectives.

Population Rate

Describes the percentage of profiled records populated with a non-null value for a given field. This statistic includes the percentage of records populated with the field’s default value.

Ex. For 100 profiled records, a field with 50 records populated – and 49 of those records are populated with the field’s default value – would have a population rate of 50%.

Net-Population Rate

Describes the percentage of profiled records populated with a non-null value for a given field – excluding the percentage of records populated with the field’s default value.

Ex. For 100 profiled records, a field with 50 records populated – and 49 of those records are populated with the field’s default value – would have a population rate of 1%.

Identifying Hidden Unused Fields

Use the net population calculations to identify fields that may be populated – but the field’s default value influences their overall population. Fields with a high population rate and a high default population rate may not be in use.

The table below demonstrates two contrasting examples of how to measure field population. The first row demonstrates a field that is not in use but is well populated. The second row demonstrates a field that is in use but whose usage is in question. The third row demonstrates a field that is confidently in use.
